FB : Defensive tackle Williams 2nd to commit to Syracuse in class of 2013
Syracuse landed its second recruit for the class of 2013, receiving a commitment from ASA College (N.Y.) defensive tackle Wayne Williams.
Williams, a 6-foot-6, 340-pound lineman from Brooklyn, has verbally committed to the Orange, according to an article published by The Post-Standard on Thursday. He joins three-star tight end Tyler Provo, who committed on Tuesday, in Syracuse’s recruiting class. Williams was not rated coming out of Abraham Lincoln High School, according to Scout.com.
Williams received Division-I offers from Syracuse, Penn State and Rutgers in high school, but he failed to meet NCAA academic requirements due to poor grades and low SAT scores, according to an article published by the New York Daily News in March 2011.
He decided to attend ASA, a junior college in Brooklyn, where he only played in three games as a freshman last fall due to an ankle injury, according to The Post-Standard. Williams finished the season with 10 tackles and 2.5 sacks.
Williams plans to enroll at SU next January or June and will have two years of eligibility, according to The Post-Standard.
