Interim AD Pete Sala promoted to vice president and chief campus facilities officer
Pete Sala, who had been serving as the interim director of athletics after Daryl Gross stepped down from the position in March, will now take over as Syracuse’s vice president and chief campus facilities officer, according to a press release from the school.
He will assume his new post once he’s done serving as the athletic director on July 6 and will continue to oversee all Carrier Dome operations. He will now also oversee Campus Planning, Design and Construction, Business and Facilities Maintenance Services, Physical Plant, Housing and Food Services Maintenance and Energy Systems and Sustainability Management.
“I want to sincerely thank Pete for stepping up and serving the University well as interim director of athletics these past few months,” SU Chancellor Kent Syverud said in the statement. “Pete’s knowledge stretches far beyond the walls of the Carrier Dome and his new role will help ensure a top-quality overall campus physical environment that supports and contributes to an outstanding student experience.”
Sala served on the search committee that brought in new AD Mark Coyle, who was announced to have won the job last Friday. Coyle was formally introduced on Monday and will take over on July 6.
Sala was the athletic director when the school announced that the football program was restoring the No. 44. Sala said the decision was made with the blessing of Jim Brown, who later refuted that statement. A request for clarification from the athletic department went unanswered.
