10 things you could be doing in Syracuse this weekend

Looking to go out this weekend? Syracuse has a variety of things going on, from 1930s jazz to country hits  and two new types of beer. Pulp has the details.

Event: DWC Visiting Author Readings: Author Jaimee Wriston Colbert
Where: YMCA of Downtown Syracuse

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

Jaimee Wriston Colbert is the author of five books including: Wild Things, Shark Girls, Dream Lives of Butterflies, and Climbing the God Tree. A creative writing professor at Binghamton University, she will discuss her work.

 



Event: Aztec Two Step
Where: May Memorial Universalist Society
When: Friday, 8-10 p.m.
Folk/rock duo Aztec Two Step, Alex Fowler and Neal Shulman, will perform their own originals as well as tributes to Simon & Garfunkel and The Everly Brothers. With more than four decades of touring, this will definitely a must-see for folk enthusiasts.

Event: Alchemical Nursery Project Exhibition
Where: Saltquarters
When: Saturday, 6-9 p.m.
Desc.: An art exhibit featuring over 30 pieces of art, each from an individual artist focusing on a particular theme. Themes include vegetable, fruits, or trees all painted on a wooden sign.

Event: moe.
Where: The F Shed at Regional Market
When: Saturday, 7:30 p.m.

Giving their first performance at The F Shed since 2014, moe. is a popular jam band that traces its roots to Utica and Buffalo, where the band was first formed.

 

Event: Ain’t Misbehavin’ Prologue
Where: Syracuse Stage
When: Sunday, 1 p.m.
A revisit to the exciting 1930s nightlife and Jazz scene, celebrating Fats Waller, a Jazz legend. This show will be tons of fun and features tons of jazz.

Where: BG Cowboys Saloon
When: Friday, 9 p.m.
The former American Idol finalist and Dancing with the Stars winner is coming to Syracuse to perform country hits like “Red High Heels” and “Best Days of Your Life.”

Event: SIPA Haze & Rugged Beer Release
Where: Willow Rock Brewing Company
When: Saturday, 1-8 p.m.
Join Willow Rock Brewery as they release two new types of beer this Saturday: SIPA Haze, a Session New England-style IPA and Rugged, a Scotch Ale.

Event: Syracuse Area Music Awards
Where: Palace Theatre
When: Friday, 7 p.m.
The SAMMYs celebrates the best of the Syracuse music scene. Since it began in 1993, this has become the number one local music awards show in central New York.
Event: PitchBlak Brass Band
Where: Funk ‘n Waffles Downtown
When: Saturday, 10 p.m.
Formerly known as Un-named, this Brooklyn-based band is bringing their unique style that mixes hip-hop and brass to Syracuse.

Event: Aaron West and the Roaring Twenties
Where: The Lost Horizon
When: Sunday, 6 p.m.
Desc.: Frontman of pop-punk band The Wonder Years Dan Campbell brings his self-described “character study conducted through music” to Syracuse, supported by opening acts Empty Houses, Dryjacket and Ahnest!
