In February’s construction update email, Vice President and Chief Facilities Officer Pete Sala gave updates on major construction projects at Syracuse University, including accessibility upgrades to restrooms and updates to residence hall amenities.
Here are the projects Sala detailed in his campus-wide email sent Tuesday afternoon:
- Archbold Gymnasium: A $50 million project to transform the gymnasium into a 7,000 square-foot fitness center is underway. Interior space in the gym has been demolished and that work will become visible in coming weeks. The project is expected to be completed in fall 2019.
- Graham Dining Hall, situated between Flint and Day Halls, will soon have a completed fitness room with aerobic exercise equipment and free weights. It’s expected to open in early March.
- The Hall of Languages’ two new accessible, single-occupant bathrooms are expected to open this month.
Underground utility work in the Q-1 parking lot will begin in mid-February and continue into the summer months as part of a project to modernize SU’s utility infrastructure. The utility project will affect a lawn between the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and Crouse Drive. In an email to Newhouse faculty late last month, Susan Nash — the school’s director of administration — said that “our whole lawn facing the administration building will be dug up, sidewalks closed, loading dock disrupted, etc. (I don’t even have all the information yet).”
