6 recipes to make for any March Madness viewing party

Sarah Allam | Illustration Editor

It’s that time of the year again when fans across the country are eager to leave work early, skip class, fill out brackets and cheer for their favorite teams competing in March Madness.

While watching so many intense games featuring the country’s best college basketball teams, you might get a bit hungry. Don’t worry though, because these six recipes will take your March Madness experience to the next level.

Slam Dunk Chips and Dip

Everyone loves to dunk chips into their favorite dip, so this recipe is the perfect start to your gameday experience. If you want to spice things up and add more to the Madness theme, try some round basketball-shaped tortilla chips or some basketball-themed dishware. You can use any dip you want, but I recommend classics like this restaurant style salsa, or guacamole.

Nutter Butter Referees

This tasty snack is perfect for the biggest basketball tournament in the country. This perfectly themed snack is super easy to make and can even be made right in your dorm room.

It’s ideal if you don’t want a full meal or need some snacks to entertain guests for a March Madness watch party. If you want, you can even play some games while eating them — when the refs make a bad call, you can just eat their heads off.

Basket Tacos

This recipe might be a bit harder to make than the others, but it’s sure to impress your friends. For this, all you need is a muffin tray, wonton or dumpling wrappers and taco ingredients to make little taco baskets. They’re small, and fit perfectly, for a basketball-themed snack. Also… who doesn’t love tacos?

Gameday Sliders

Sliders are a classic bar food that is great for gameday. They’re simple to make and extremely customizable. You can use turkey, beef, chicken or any other meat substitute to set up a slider bar for your friends and you to enjoy.

First, buy some slider buns, black food coloring and a small paintbrush. Once you have those, just paint the basketball stripes right onto the buns, set up the rest of the burger bar and fire up the grill.

Basketball Cake Pops

Perfect for the biggest basketball event of the year, this wonderfully themed treat will go great while watching your team battle it out in the big tournament. This particular recipe is great if you don’t have the time, or effort, to bake cake pops.

Instead, just substitute the cake for donut holes and decorate them with icing. If you would rather bake your own with a personal recipe, then that’s a tasty option as well.

Team Cupcakes

If you love desserts and sweet foods, this is the treat for you. I recommend this recipe for a simple, yet delicious, batch of chocolate cupcakes. Try designing them with the logos of your favorite team — or if your team didn’t make it, decorate them to look like a basketball. This is a great way to enjoy tasty food while supporting your favorite team during this year’s March Madness tournament.
