Chancellor Kent Syverud agreed to meet the demands of #NotAgainSU and international students, the university announced Thursday morning.

Students presented 19 demands to the chancellor. Syverud agreed to 16 as written, and suggested minor revisions to three that require approval from SU’s Board of Trustees or involve law enforcement compliance. Syverud will meet with Jewish students later Thursday morning to address their demands.

The announcement came hours after protesters demanded the chancellor meet their demands or face calls for resignation at a community forum held Wednesday night in Hendricks Chapel. Some students walked out of the forum and marched to the Chancellor’s House on the 300 block of Comstock Avenue after Syverud said he couldn’t agree to meet all of the demands as they were explicitly worded.

#NotAgainSU, a movement led by black students, has occupied the Barnes Center at The Arch for seven days in protest of at least 12 hate crimes and bias-related incidents that have occurred on or near the Syracuse University campus. The protesters presented 18 demands for Syverud to meet by 5 p.m. Wednesday. International students have also provided a list of demands to the chancellor that repeats some of those from #NotAgainSU.
