Food and Drink

A comprehensive guide to Carrier Dome concessions

Jess Sheldon | Staff Photographer

From pretzels to draft beer, the Loud House offers a variety of snacks to curb your game-time appetite.

It’s basketball season, a time where game days (no matter weekend or weekday) are spent getting dressed in ‘Cuse gear and cheering for the Orange. When you’re hungry and it’s halftime, knowing where your favorite foods and drinks are is a must, especially relative to the student section. So here’s a breakdown of the most salivation-inducing snack time selects:

pretzel

Pretzel

Price: $4
Found: Every concession stand

A game time classic, a solid salty pretzel sits in a heating oven prior to purchase. Served in wax paper, students can choose from an array of condiments to dip in or decide to grab a sample of nacho cheese sauce.

Nachos Grande

Price: $7
Found: Every concession stand

Perfect for sharing with friends or mashing on when you get the munchies, the nachos grande is just what its name entails: huge. Served with a side of salsa (just like the one in the dining halls) and a side of thick and gooey nacho cheese, you can also opt for jalapeños on top of the chips. Grab a few napkins because a mess is almost necessary with this game time classic.

beer

Draft beer

Price: $6.50 or $7.50, depending on the brand
Found: Every concession stand

Boasting eight different brands including a hard cider and a craft beer, the Dome is one of the only college sports arenas to serve alcohol, and the selection is something to be happy about (if you are of age). The concessions stand closest to the student section only offers four beer brands, though, compared to the other open concession stands. But making your way down the hallway, you can beat the line by stopping by one of the roaming carts that offer canned beers.

wine

Wine

Price: $7
Found: Every concession stand

The most expensive beverage at the Dome, patrons have the choice of chardonnay, merlot, white zinfandel, Bully Hill or White Cat. If you want to be bold, try a wine slushie offered at various stands.

A Hofmann frank or coney

Price: $4
Found: Every concession stand

A central New York staple, the Hofmann frank and Coney will set back fans fifty cents more than it did four years ago. If you’re still craving the Syracuse born and bred brand (the Hofmann company was founded in the Salt City in 1879), concession-goers have the option to add some chili, cheese, onions, relish and other hot dog condiments.

Perry’s Ice Cream

Price: Waffle Cone – $4.50
Bowl – $3.50
Souvenir Bowl – $4.50
Found: Between section 112 and 113

The Syracuse-only Otto’s Cupcake flavor was developed by 2012 SU graduate Eilish Mitchell in 2013. In the fall of the same year, the school officially approved the flavor. The ice cream is SU-themed even down to its details: the SKU number is 1144, ending in the famed jersey number 44.

Superslice pizza

Price: $5
Found: All Lower Level concessions and aisle 301 & 319

This may be Sbarro but this isn’t the same pizza as the mass-made one in the dining hall. Served in the classic cardboard pizza box, patrons can choose between pepperoni or cheese. The fluffy crust is comparable to that found in the brand’s storefronts and slices are noticeably larger than those on campus.

Miscellaneous:

For varying prices, you can grab a few options that stray from the typical sports stadium fare. Chicken tenders are available with French fries, Dunkin’ Donuts coffee is sold at most concession stands for those cold winter games and jumbo-size candy can be found right outside the student section if you’re in need of a sugar rush.

Prices at the Dome have increased in the past four years on select items by 50 cents to $1, according to an Aug. 28, 2011 Syracuse.com article. Here’s a chart that compares the price increases for five concession stand items:

Alcohol and athletics

Here are a few things to know about drinking in the Dome:
1. Must present 21+ ID
2. There’s a one-beer limit for students sitting in the student section
3. No alcohol sold after halftime
4. Two-beverage limit per person not in student section

If you have ever sacrificed watching a big play in the Carrier Dome to stand in line at the concession stand, then you know you have to really want what you are waiting for. Vote for your favorite Dome concession item below:
